The text has an introductory glossary for terms used, twenty five chapters divided into five parts, and a bibliography. The entire text, including examples of interpreted phone calls, is in English.<\/p>\n<p>Part 1, \u2018Introduction to telephone interpreting\u2019 (1\u201332), includes Ch. 1, \u2018A brief history of telephone interpreting\u2019, Ch. 2, \u2018How it works\u2019, and Ch. 3, \u2018Industry trends\u2019. These chapters introduce consumers and practitioners to the intricacies of telephone interpreting.<\/p>\n<p>Part 2, \u2018Working as a telephone interpreter\u2019 (33\u201392), is divided into five chapters that offer interpreter practitioners a means to compare conference and community work to telephone interpreting. Part 2 includes Ch. 4, \u2018Profile of the ideal candidate\u2019, Ch. 5, \u2018Finding employment as a telephone interpreter\u2019, Ch. 6, \u2018Home office vs. call center\u2019, and Ch. 7, \u2018Working from a home office\u2019. In Ch. 8, \u2018Quality in telephone interpreting\u2019, K discusses misconceptions about the telephone interpreting industry, including consumer concerns regarding quality control and the confidentiality of calls.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing on the codes of professional conduct that are already established for other interpreting venues and organizations, Part 3, \u2018Ethics and standards\u2019 (93\u2013182), outlines K\u2019s proposed seven part code of ethics for telephone interpreters. Examples of ethical dilemmas faced by telephone interpreters and exercises for practical applications of the tenets are provided. In cases in which a multilingual corporation is in need of a vendor of telephone interpreting services, Ch. 24, \u2018Selecting a telephone interpreting provider\u2019, lists a number of questions to consider while researching vendors. In Ch. 25, \u2018Working effectively with telephone interpreters\u2019, K offers individual consumers of telephone interpreting services tips on how to have a successfully interpreted phone call, and includes explanations and examples.<\/p>\n<p><em>Telephone interpreting: A comprehensive guide to the profession<\/em> is written in a straightforward and accessible manner.
