Daley College<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This second volume of the <em>Encyclopedia of Arabic language and linguistics<\/em> is arranged alphabetically from <em>Eg-<\/em> to <em>Lan-<\/em> and includes entries that offer definitions and illustrations of various linguistic and cultural terms pertaining to the Arabic language and heritage. This comprehensive reference work contains articles and bibliographical references on a wide range of linguistic topics discussed from an Arabic perspective.<\/p>\n<p>The first entry under the letter <em>E<\/em> is \u2018Egypt\u2019, which is divided into the categories \u2018Sociolinguistics\u2019 and \u2018General linguistic situation\u2019 (i.e. \u2018Languages spoken in Egypt\u2019 and \u2018Arabic dialects of Egypt\u2019). \u2018Arabic dialects of Egypt\u2019 is further divided into the categories \u2018Lower Egypt-Nile Delta\u2019, \u2018Upper Egypt-Nile Valley\u2019, and \u2018Oases\u2019. \u2018Languages spoken in Egypt\u2019 briefly discusses the various dialects of Arabic (e.g. urban, rural, and Bedouin), Afro-Asiatic languages (e.g. Berber and Bedja), and non-Afro-Asiatic languages (e.g. Nubian and Fadicca).
